Job Summary
A critical career opportunity is available at the Pentagon for a Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) Technician supporting the AFNCR IT Services program within the National Military Command Center (NMCC).
This program provides essential information systems support for Headquarters Air Force (HAF), Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), and other key Air Force activities.

The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert responsible for the engineering, operation, maintenance, and availability of the Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) and associated telecommunications systems throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).

  What you will do:
  • Lead the maintenance of the DRSN and supporting subsystems to ensure continuous 24/7 operations within the Pentagon, National Military Command Center (NMCC), and other secure NCR locations.
  • Perform all COMSEC responsibilities, including the operation, maintenance, and configuration of cryptographic devices supporting the DRSN.
  • Support DRSN switch operations and administration.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot network issues through fault isolation and service restoration activities.
  • Provide hardware and software problem resolution for data communication circuits supporting the DRSN.
  • Conduct network planning and engineering activities, including new circuit installations, modifications, and deactivations.
  • Provide technical and operational support to DRSN end users.
  • Support network expansion initiatives and telecommunications modernization efforts.
  • Ensure DRSN circuit availability in coordination with other work centers.
  • Provide outage reporting, restoration updates, and estimated restoration timelines.
  • Perform continuous circuit monitoring and status reporting.
  • Support evolving operational requirements and perform additional duties as assigned by DRSN management.

What you will bring: 
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Additional years of related experience, training, and/or certifications may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Active Security+ CE certification.
  • Hands-on experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting IT communications equipment.
  • Experience supporting telecommunications, network infrastructure, or mission-critical communications systems.
  • Knowledge of network operations, maintenance, administration, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Experience with fault isolation, service restoration, and hardware/software issue resolution.
  • Familiarity with COMSEC operations and cryptographic device support.
  • Ability to develop, test, and implement communications operations contingency, exercise, and restoration plans.
  • Experience with circuit restoration, quality control testing, trend analysis, performance monitoring, and status reporting.
  • Experience using telecommunications testing equipment, including:
    • Tone Generators
    • VoIP Testers
    • Oscilloscopes
    • BERT (Bit Error Rate Testers)
    • Multimeters
  • Experience conducting Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS).
  • Experience performing advanced troubleshooting and component remove-and-replace procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work dedicated overnight shifts and participate in rotating schedules or standby support as required to maintain 24/7 operations.

  • Proven ability to support modernization efforts and maintain highly available secure communications environments.
  • Ability to serve as a trusted technical resource in a high-visibility, mission-critical environment supporting senior leaders and national defense operations.

At JCS Solutions, compensation is based on a number of factors such as location, qualifications, and applicable contract terms. The general salary range for this position is as follows: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00
